His Majesty's Embassy present their complimenta

to the Imperial Japanese Kinistry of Foreign Affairs,

and have the honour to refer to the Memorandum left

by Sir Robert Craigie with the Minister for Foreign

ffairs on 30th January last, regarding the violation

of Hongkong territorial waters by armed Japanese

vessels.

According to a report now received, a Japanese

armed trawler No. 89 attacked a Chinese Junk inside

British territorial waters near Mine Pin Group, between

10 and 11 a.a. on January 19th, firing two shots and

causing damage. Another junk was also stopped by

rifle fire, but on the appearance of Hongkong Police

forces both were released.

His Majesty's Embassy have the honour to

protest in the most emphatic terms against this

further violation of the territorial waters of

Hongkong and to request that immediate and effective

steps may be taken to secure a permanent cessation

of these activities.
